A record-setting game

"Jordan! Jordan! Jordan!" was the chant rising from the stadium at the end of last Saturday's game against the University of Central Florida. Texas wide receiver Jordan Shipley, pictured below, set the school record for most yards in a single game with 273 yards.

According to an article on the Texas Football Web site, the humble Shipley didn't even know he broke the record until after the game. When the crowd began chanting, he hid himself behind his teammates until they pushed him forward out of the pack.

Texas quarterback Colt McCoy almost set a record himself; with 470 passing yards, he was just shy of the school record of 473, set in 2001.

Despite these exciting statistics, the game got off to a slow start, with neither team scoring in the first quarter. But the Texas defense held off the Knights until the offense warmed up, and the game ended with a score of 35-3.

In a press conference on Monday, Texas head coach Mack Brown talked about the upcoming game against the Baylor University Bears. The team is approaching the game with only the goal of winning the Big 12 South, and is not thinking about the rest of the season or the National Championship at this point.

However, the conditions are perfect for Texas to win the national title this year, and I, along with all other Longhorns fans, am eagerly waiting to see what happens next.

Impressive showing against the Cowboys

Wow, another great weekend for the Texas football team. The Longhorns defeated the Oklahoma State University Cowboys by a much larger margin than was expected, 41-14.

The Longhorns played great from the very beginning of the game, showing us a team that we haven't seen for most of the season, as they are usually known as a second-half team.

As a result of the defeat and a bye week for the University of Alabama Crimson Tide, the Longhorns moved up to No. 2 in the BCS rankings, while Alabama dropped to No. 3.

Colt McCoy had a great game, as did running back Cody Johnson, who is pictured below. Johnson was responsible for two of the Longhorns' five touchdowns.

This football season is making me so emotional. I'm beyond happy when the Longhorns win, especially when they play well as they did against the Cowboys, and the thought of losing a game and the hope of a National Championship makes me sick.

To complicate matters, my boyfriend of about two and a half years attends school at Texas A&M. So of course, every week we get into little arguments about football and which teams are the best, and who will win the Thanksgiving matchup between the Longhorns and the Aggies.

I will be in attendance at that game, and I can only hope that the score will be similar to that of last year's game, when the Longhorns won 49-9. Otherwise, I can foresee some serious problems in my relationship with my boyfriend.

This Saturday the Longhorns will play the University of Central Florida here in Austin at 11 a.m. Although this may seem like an easy game, the team should not write off anyone as an "easy" win at this point in the season, with so much on the line.
